Homage Design was created by Anja Luthje, a Luxury Hospitality expert with invaluable knowledge of Housekeeping and Luxury bedding. Her work expertise, combined with her upbringing and early exposure to quality linens by her late mother inspired her to create Homage Designs. “My mother was a very strong influence on my understanding of quality. From an early age on I witnessed how she carefully chose our towels and linens with a critical eye for quality and style. She saved up for months to buy the towel sets she had her eye on and it was a delight to see her truly enjoy and care for them. She passed on that gratitude and understanding for craftmanship to my sister and I. It is no surprise that some of the Homage Design curated products in our on-line store, like Leitner Leinen and F.lli Graziano, are indeed brands my mother introduced me to many many years back”.
The Origin of Hom•age.
The name of the company is based on the desire to pay homage to my late mother Christa Luethje née Fuerstenberg. My mother had an extraordinary flawless style and always a critical eye for quality.
In the early 1960’s she worked at a prestigious department store as a merchandise window decorator in Hamburg, Germany. Her window designs always stood out as she was a true storyteller when decorating. Once married, she dedicated her life to my dad, sister and me, however her design style and artistic talent continued throughout her life including painting and pottery.
My mother had a deep admiration and respect for craftsmanship and she understood that you pay more for quality up-front, but save in the long run. She inspired me from an early age on and still does to this day.
Linen Introduction.
One Christmas, I had just turned 11, my mother presented me with a set of my own luxurious and cozy double brushed flannel bedlinen. Unfortunately, my reaction was not as she had hoped for as I started to cry. I was so disappointed as I had many items on my holiday wish list, none of them included bedlinen! However, once the cold snowy winter days set in, I realized at a very young age what quality was. I recall my mother saying:
“Not all cotton is made equal. There is cotton and then there is cotton.” – Christa Luethje
Our bedlinen was always taken to a professional laundry with oversized flatwork steam ironer machines. My mother’s crisp Egyptian cotton percale sheets were washed, ironed and maintained with perfection, neatly folded and packaged in Kraft paper and a carry ribbon around it. I vividly remember how my mother always had a huge smile on her face when she collected the linen from the laundry and that she carried the package like it was breakable. My mother passed away at the young age of 63 and she is missed greatly every day. At her funeral a friend said: ”Heaven has gotten more beautiful - not just because Christa is a beautiful soul, but also because she has style and makes everything look beautiful.” Homage to my mom!

Anja Luthje has worked in Luxury Hospitality for more than 30 years for brands like Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula Hotels, among others. A luxury hospitality expert who is well travelled and holds global work experience across five continents, Anja does not only understand quality, production and Housekeeping, she also is passionate about craftsmanship and service and has a critical eye for design, allowing her to curate beautiful and long-lasting lines which will place the finishing touches to your home.
